Bergan

H. Bergan

History

John Henry Bergan, born in 1868 in Accrington, Lancashire, was owner of the Langs Arms Hotel in that same town and a member of the Manchester Aero Club. In autumn of 1909, in response to a challenge from W.E. Cooke, of the Burnley Motor Bus Co., for a race on Hopton Common, he proposed to build a Bleriot-like monoplane in the garage of the hotel. Although a model flew successfully, the full size machine was never completed.

Bergan died on 7 September 1917.
