Produced Variants
BN-2 and BN-2A Series Islander
BN-2 10 seat (pilot + 9 pax) high wing STOL monoplane transport. Prototype first flown in 1966 with two 210 h.p. Rolls-Royce built
  Continental IO-360-B powerplants. Prototype later modified with 260 h.p. Lycoming O-540-E4B5 powerplants in revised 
  cowlings fitted further outboard, 4 foot increase in wingspan and redesigned tailplane; BN-2 production aircraft to this standard.
BN-2E Mk II Super As BN-2 with fuselage stretched by 33 inches, adding an additional seat row for a maximum of 11 passengers. Intended to be 
  owered by two 400 h.p. Lycoming IO-720s, it retained the original 260 h.p. Lycoming O-540-E4C5 powerplants.
BN-2R BN-2 fitted with a RayJay Turbocharger for improved climb performance in hot climates.
BN-2S As BN-2 fitted with Rolls-Royce built 285 h.p. turbocharged Continental TSIO-520-E powerplants.
BN-2A As BN-2 (260 h.p. Lycoming O-540-E4C5 powerplants) with increased takeoff weight.
BN-2A-2 As BN-2A with modified flaps, and two 300 h.p. Lycoming IO-540-K1B5 (fuel injected) powerplants.
BN-2A-3 As BN-2A-2 (300 h.p. Lycoming IO-540-K1B5 powerplants) with increased wingspan and fitted with extra wingtip fuel tanks.
BN-2A-3S As BN-2A-3 with extended nose baggage space and extra seats in a reworked rear fuselage.
BN-2A-6 As BN-2A (260 h.p. Lycoming O-540-E4C5 powerplants) with wing leading edge modifications.
BN-2A-6R BN-2A-6 fitted with a RayJay Turbocharger for improved climb performance in hot climates.

BN-2A-30 As BN-2A-20 fitted with floats. Twin floats were attached to the undercarriage legs and incorporated retractable landing gear.

BN-2A Series Defender  
BN-2A-3 Defender Military development of the BN-2A-3 Islander for roles such as utility transport, casualty evacuation, counter-insurgency and 
  light attack, forward air control, patrol and reconnaissance. Four underwing hardpoints for pylons for various types of 
 ordinance.
BN-2A-7 Defender Military development of the BN-2A-7 Islander (see BN-2A-3 Defender).
BN-2A-9 Defender Military development of the BN-2A-9 Islander (see BN-2A-3 Defender).
BN-2A-21 Defender Military development of the BN-2A-21 Islander (see BN-2A-3 Defender).
BN-2A-21 Maritime-Defender Armed maritime reconnaissance and patrol variant of BN-2A-21 Defender. Equipment generally included a search radar,
  forward-looking infrared (FLIR) capability, sonobuoys, a magnetic anomaly detector, and acoustic processors. 
  Two Sting Ray torpedoes, four Sea Skua anti-ship missiles, or variety of other systems on the four wing hardpoints. 
   
BN-2A Mk.III Series Trislander
BN-2A Mk.III Trislander BN-2A modified with a 90in stretched fuselage stretch forward of the wing, adding four additional seat row for a maximum of 17
  passengers, a third engine on the fuselage centre line atop the fin ,a strengthened, larger span wing and new main landing 
  gear and larger diameter wheels and tyres. Three 260 h.p. Lycoming O-540-E4C5 powerplants.
BN-2A Mk.III-1 Trislander First production version, with short nose.
BN-2A Mk.III-2 Trislander As BN-2A Mk.III-1 with lengthened nose and higher operating weight.
BN-2A Mk.III-3 Trislander BN-2A Mk.III-2 with an automatic feathering system for the propellors.
BN-2A Mk.III-4 Trislander BN-2A Mk.III-2 fitted with 350 lb rocket-assisted takeoff equipment.

BN-2T Maritime-Defender Armed maritime reconnaissance and patrol variant of BN-2T Defender (BN-2A-21 Maritime-Defender).
BN-2T ASTOR BN-2T Defender fitted with a Ferranti multi-mode all weather radar in a large 'flattened disc' radome to meet British Army
  CASTOR (Corps Airborne Stand-Off Radar, later ASTOR) requirements for use in battlefield surveillance. Nose radome shape
  altered in 1989 to that of the BN-2T AEW Defender.
BN-2T AEW Defender BN-2T Defender fitted with a Thorn EMI Skymaster radar in a bulbous nose housing.
   
BN-2T-4 Series Islander  
BN-2T-4R MSSA (multi-sensor surveillance aircraft); as BN-2T with Westinghouse multi-mode radar in a large nose radome.

BN-2T-4 Series Defender 4000
BN-2T-4S Defender 4000 An enhanced version of the BN-2T Defender intended for the aerial surveillance role. It features a stretched fuselage, the 
  enlarged wing from the Trislander, a new nose structure capable of accommodating radar, and an increased payload. 
  Two 400 s.h.p. Allison 250-B17F1 turboprops.
BN-2T-4S Defender AL.1 Defender 4000 fitted with under-wing defensive aids dispensers and an electro-optical turret under the nose.
BN-2T-4S Defender AL.2 As BN-2T-4S Defender AL.1 with different sensor fit.
BN-2T-4S Defender T.3 Training variant of BN-2T-4S Defender AL.1.
 
Proposed Variants
Agricultural Islander BN-2 with cockpit for single pilot moved to a location above the wing, internal fuslage hopper and redesigned nose.

Mosquito  COIN Defender based on the BN-2T featuring a raised cockpit and retractable undercarriage. (See Projects Page)
BN-2A Mk.III-5 Trislander As BN-2A Mk.III-2 with sound-proofed cabin, modernised cockpit/interior and new engines.
BN-2A Mk.III Trislander M  Proposed military version, capable of carrying 17 fully equipped troops over 220 n.m., 13 troops over 650 n.m. or up to 16 
 parachutists. For maritime roles, it would capable of carrying a range of maritime patrol and search and rescue equipment.
