110 [5] reconditioned F.2B aircraft were supplied to Poland, starting in 1920. Known ex-RAF
serials include H1038, H5952, H5960, H5963, H1274 and H1279. Known Polish serials include 20.10, 20.21, 20.39, 20.44 (ex H1274),
20.48 (ex H1279); 20.71 and 20.78.
Initial deliveries to Begium, serials L1 - L17 (originally B1 - B17),
comprised one Type 14 presented to King Albert of Belgium by ADC in May 1920, plus the following 16 reconditioned aircraft: L1, G-EASU (H1639), del'd 9/20. L2,
G-EASV (H1638), del'd 11/20. L3, G-EAYQ (H1389), del'd 10/21. L4, G-EBAK (H1291), del'd 12/21. L5,
G-EBAL (H1291), del'd 3/22. L6, G-EBAM (H1240), del'd 2/22. L?, G-EBAT (H1242), crashed 1/22 before del'y. L?, G-EBAU (H1244), del'd 2/22. L?, G-EBBD (D7842),
del'd 1/22. L?, G-EBBO (H1258), del'd 3/22. L12, G-EBCU (E2058), del'd 5/22. L13, G-EBCV (H1281),
del'd 7/22. L14, G-EBCW (H1245), del'd 7/22. L15, G-EBDB (E5219), del'd 7/22. L16, G-EBDN (H927),
del'd 7/22. L17, G-EBEE (H926), del'd 7/22. All were most
probably Type 17A with the exception of one Type 14 presented to Queen Elisabeth of Belgium. Exactly which machine this was
is uncertain. Belgian Wings website [11] implies it may have been L2, G-EASV, but it's presentation date of January 1922 agrees
with G-EBBD. However, Bowyer [5] gives it as G-EBCU! The Type 17 was also known as the 'Bristol 300' in the Aéronautique
Militaire Belge following the horsepower of it's Hispano Suiza powerplant.
From Hagedorn [15] and Magnusson
[17] the first aircraft was a demonstrator gifted by Handley Page in 1921 and this was followed by a further 12, presumably
ordered from ADC rather than Bristol. Three more were donated by private individuals and in 1924 a further 12 were ordered
from Britain. A further letter by Hagedorn [16] indicates the supplied aircraft were referred to as "Bristol H.S.300",
implying they would be Type 17 with the 300 h.p. Hispano Suiza powerplant. FMA had a licence agreement to build the
F.2B and 6 airframes were built in 1930, fitted with the the 450hp Liberty powerplant. A further 6 followed in 1931, and these
received serials 29 through 38. It is most likely, though, that these were not new airframes but mearly earlier machines converted
to take the Liberty powerplant.
Originally ordered as 1000 aircraft under Order No. 20203 on 3 November
1917, replaced by Order No. 20285 for the same amount on 26 November. Cancelled and replaced by Oder No. 20387 on 10 January
1918 for 2000 aircraft to contract 2483. Cancelled on 20 July 1918 after 27 aircraft had been produced.
Barnes [1] lists Bristol sequence numbers 6162-6221 as 60 aircraft for A.M. (Air Ministry?), but this author can find
nothing further on them.
The precise disposition of 800 machines between Type 14 and Type 15 is unknown
and has been assumed.
Possible origin of these two aircraft: C949 was supplied to American Government
as repayment and C4729 supplied to British Aviation Mission to Washington.
