Two seat long-range heavy day and night fighter derivative of the Type 152 Beaufort, featuring a new slim fuselage, initially to Speification F.11/37, later Specification F.17/39 to meet the requirements of OR.72. Two 1400 h.p  Bristol Hercules III, X or XI powerplants. All production aircraft were delivered as Mk.IC or Mk.IF.
Type 156 Beaufighter Mk.IC Mk.I optimised for Coastal Command operations.
Type 156 Beaufighter Mk.IF Dedicated night fighter variant of Mk.I fitted with A.I. Mk.IV Airborne Interception radar.
Type 156 Beaufighter Mk.II As Mk.I but fitted with two 1250 h.p  Rolls-Royce Merlin XX powerplants. All production aircraft were delivered as Mk.IIF.
Type 156 Beaufighter Mk.IIF Night fighter variant of Mk.II

Notes
  1. The 26 aircraft indicated by * are specifically shown as converted to T.T.10's in the official serial registers [7], and additionally another 11 shown by '' have been verified from photographs or squadron histories. The additional 23 not so indicated are given in the Air Britain registers [3] and Robertson [4]. Their SOC dates would lend credence to them having been converted. Both Barnes [1] and Bingham [2] give 35 aircraft converted but without further clarification.
