Type Description

  • ARV-1 Super2
  • Side by side two-seat, strut-braced, shoulder wing, tricycle landing gear light aircraft, available either factory-built or as a kit. The wing was swept forward 5° to maintain correct centre of gravity balance. It was constructed mainly of aluminium alloy, with fibreglass wingtips, cowlings and canopy frame. The cockpit was a stiff monocoque of "Supral" alloy for lightness and improved crash protection. Aft of the cockpit bulkhead, the aircraft was conventionally built, with frames, longerons and a stressed skin forming a semi-monocoque. Skin sections were both glued and riveted. Ailerons, elevators and flaps are pushrod-controlled, but the rudder and trim are cable-linked. The rudder pedals also control a steerable nosewheel, but the hand-operated disc brakes are not differential and do not contribute to steering. One 77 h.p. Hewland AE75 3-cylinder powerplant.
  • ASL Opus 280
  • As the original ARV-1 Super2, but fitted with an 80 h.p. Bombadier Rotax 912A powerplant. The aircraft produced by Highlander Aircraft Corporation, SkyCraft International and Opus Aircraft were the same as this.

Notes

  1. Jane's All the World's Aircraft 2009 records that by August 1996, Highlander had sold six kits, two of which were flying by year end. However, only one appears on the FAA database.
  2. CAA database G-INFO shows G-BMWJ going to Germany in late 1999. The Super 2 owners website [1] speculates that it bacame N630A, one of the two aircaft acquired by Opus Aircraft Llc in the USA (the other being G-BNGX/N870A). Both are now believed to be in China.
