History
Oscar (or Oszkár) Asboth (b. 31 March 1891 in Pankota - d. 27 February 1960 in Budapest) was a Hungarian aeronautical engineer and early proponant of the helicopter. Most of Asboth's activities took place in his native Hungary where he produced four helicopters, which are outside the context of this website.
In 1930, a British delegation went to Budapest, and Asboth's AH.4 was flown by Capt R.N. Liptrot to a height of 100ft, covering a distance of 1.67 miles. The result of this was that in 1935, Asboth signed an agreement with the Air Ministry to design a new type, the AH.5, based upon his concepts. The design was completed and it was to have been constructed by the Blackburn Aircraft Company, but this was prevented by the approach of war and Asboth returned to Berlin.

Production Details and Type Description
Two seat helicopter. The crew sat in tandem high on a short fuselage and were located above the powerplant, the driveshaft from which passed between the crew to the twin, 32ft 9in diameter, contra-rotating rotors located above the cabin. The powerplant also drove a tractor propeller located on the fuselage centre line, directly in front of the cockpit. Forward flight was augmented by a pair of tandem wings fitted with end plates for stability.
