History

The Crompton Monoplane was designed and built during 1911 by H. D. Crompton of Walton-on-the-Hill, Surrey.

Production Details and Type Description

Single seat, high wing monoplane. Aft of the wing the open frame fuselage upper longerons curved dow, the lower curving up to taper to a point in both plan and elevation, with a fixed tailplane and ventral rudder mounted on an extended sternpost, the latter also mounting the tail skid. The longerons were widely spaced to allow for the pusher propeller. Forward od the wing, the upper longerons continued parallel and horizontal, mounting a forward elevator at their extremity. This was braced bacl to the lower longeron at its intersection with the undercarriage mounting. The latter consted of four V-struts in pairs forward and aft of the wing, mounted transversely, one leg being vertical and attached through the bottom longeron and up to the top, while the second, angled leg was attached to a transverse member between the upper longerons. Skids were attached to the apex supporting V members, with wheels, mounted on a cross axle, midway between the supports. Lateral control was by wing warping, while the forward elevator was operated by a long rod attached near the top of the pilots contol column. The engine was slung underneath the upper longerons, driving a pusher propeller. The pilot's seat was mounted on top of the longerons, in front of the fuel tank. One 30 h.p. Alvaston powerplant.
