Bristol Types 62, 75 and Type 79 Brandon

(a.k.a 10 seater) A two-bay biplane airliner designed to carry eight passengers plus two crew. The pilot sat forward of the wings in an open cockpit, with the passengers seated behind and below in an enclosed cabin that filled the gap between the upper and lower wing. Access to the cabin was via a door aft of the wings, on the port side. Six of the passengers were located in separate seats, three a side, facing forward, with the other two passengers at the front end of the cabin facing aft. The seats were collapsable, and when folded project only five inches from the cabin sides, leaving a maximum of floor space should it be desired to carry cargo in lieu of passengers. There was an emergency exit in the roof. The cabin was heated by means of hot air muffs round the long exhaust pipes. Aft of the cockpit there was a lavatory, and in front of the cabin, under the pilot's cockpit, is a luggage compartment reached through a trap door in the floor. A ninth passenger, or a mechanic, could be carried in the seat in the pilot's cockpit. The fuselage was of deep rectangular section, with curved top deck, tapering to a shallow vertical knife-edge at the rear, completely filling the gap between the wings. The main planes were of equal span and chord, without stagger or sweepback, but set at a pronounced dihedral angle. The lower planes were attached directly to the sides of the fuselage, and the top ones to small wing-roots in the roof of the cabin. Ailerons were fitted to all four wings. The undercarriage was a four-wheeled unit, with wheels in tandem, brakes being fitted to the rear wheels. One 450 h.p. Napier Lion powerplant.

As Type 62 but fitted with a 435 h.p. Bristol Jupiter IV powerplant, which was mounted forward of a fireproof bulkhead, with the entire engine installation capable of being swung open to allow easy access to the rear of the engine. The undercarriage was changed to a more conventional two wheel type and cabin access door moved to the starboard side.

Type 75 converted to a freighter capable of carrying 1800 lb of cargo.

Ambulance derivative of the Type 75 to Specification 32/22, fitted with wings of greater chord. Accommodation for three stretchers and an attendant or two stretchers and four sitting patients in a large cabin, white enamelled throughout, measuring 10 ft. 6 ins. in length, 5 ft. 9 ins. high and 4 ft. wide. A wide entrance was made in the port side for stretcher access, opposite the main entrance door. One 435 h.p. Bristol Jupiter IV powerplant.
