Type Description

  • A.109 Airedale
  • Four-seat, high-wing braced monoplane with a fixed, tricycle undercarriage, developed from the unbuilt Auster D.8 project. Construction continued the methods previously used by Auster, using some of the earlier Auster jigs and tooling, utilising welded steel tube covered by light alloy for the fuselage with fibreglass forward and fabric aft. The wings were metal spared with a metal leading edge, fibreglass tips, and fabric covering. The first three D.8 airframes were in construction when Beagle Aircraft bought Auster in 1960, at which point Beagle began introducing a series of major modifications to the D.8, which included moving the pilot's door aft and adding a second door on the right, widening the rear cabin, lengthening the rear fuselage and adding a swept fin, as well as many minor changes. One 180 h.p. Lycoming O-360-A1A powerplant.
  • A.111 Airedale
  • As A.109 but fitted with 175 h.p. Rolls-Royce Continental GO-300 powerplant.
